Actual nominal sizes are 0.2 in smaller than listed. All weights are ± 5%. Thickness dimensions are ± 1/8 in ( ± 3 mm). Width and length dimensions are ± 0.13 in (± 3 mm).
Hesco Testing Protocol
NIJ Certification of hard armor needs 10” x 12” test plates. These plates must be able to defeat specific rounds according to a valid NIJ shot pattern after going through a strict conditioning process to mimic aging and wear. Level III requires six M80 rounds per plate. Level IV requires one AP M2 per plate. Other size torso plates of the same construction can be included in the Certification without extra NIJ testing.
Hesco sets a higher standard. They tell you the minimum number of shots each size plate can handle under similar NIJ testing and list extra threats not covered by the NIJ Certification. You can find this info in the Threat Performance Matrix.
